Feathered Wing

Feathers are miracles of life sent to us to bring wisdom and joy

Feathered Wing - A Poem by Sue Cartwright, Spiral Leaf

Contoured feather on a hollow, slender vine;

Perfect barbs, hooked in parallel lines;

Exquisite symmetry, Nature's finest design;

Form and function, the miracle of wings that fly.

A two way, planar plane, glossy and glistening;

Waterproof, lightweight, precisely positioned;

To rise, to fall, to trap heat through quivering;

Fluffy clusters to sleek wingtips, gifts of Creation.

Famed feathers of every feathered wing;

Wing, contour, semiplume, filoplume, bristle and down;

Tail feathers, flicking, flaring, sounding the alarm;

Carotenoids, melanins, porphyrins, of every hue.

Find a feather, fallen plumage, take it as a sign;

Indigenous wisdom fluttering down from your spirit guide;

Connecting you to Earth, to Heaven, ancestoral love divine;

Nature's miracles inspire us, to heal and similarly align.
