Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential natural mineral that our body needs to maintain good health

What is it?

Magnesium is a natural mineral that gives our body the spark of life as it is responsible for the healthy functioning of over 800 metabolic functions.

Natural Magnesium is an essential, naturally occurring mineral that the human body needs to function effectively although it cannot be made on its own. It is found in both plant and animal foods although modern farming methods, intensive processing and dietary habits have significantly stripped this vital mineral from our food supply.

The good news is that you can purchase the right kind of Magnesium and pure Epsom Salts to ensure your body receives what it needs to regulate muscles, nerve function, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, while supporting bone health and protein synthesis (see below).

What does it do?

The problem is that none of us are taking in enough Magnesium due to the quality of our food, modern diets, stress, pollution and pharmaceutial mediations that make deficiency incredibly common as these things deplete our Magnesium reserves even further.

It is important also to understand the Calcium-to-Magnesium ratio whereby taking excess Calcium without sufficient Magnesium can lead to stiff muscles, heart calcification and other issues. This can cause problems when taking Calcium Supplements without taking additional Magnesium to distribute it properly and prevent it from building up.

A daily dose of Magnesium is recommended to be taken in the morning and evening with Pure VItimin B Complex (see below) because the latter works in synergy with the Magnesium to support energy production, nervous system function and stress management.

How is it used?

The first thing to be aware of is that there are different types of Magnesium and you have to make sure you are using the right one for maximum cell absorbtion and beneficial effect. This should not be Magnesium Oxide, a low cost compound often recommended by doctors, that combines Magnesium and Oxygen. This has extremely low bioavailability (absorption rate) compared to other forms. Make sure it is pure Citrate or Elemental Magnesium for best effect (see below).

If you are on prescription drugs, these are one of the main causes of Magnesium and other mineral and nutrient deficiencies. This is especially pertinant for children who are treated with drugs for their symptoms when things like hyperactivity and depression are actually caused by deficiencies in minerals such as Magnesium and other essential nutrients.

Wherever you are now on your journey to full health, the Magnesium Miracle  written by Carolyn Dean MD ND explains why this and Magnesium and its counterparts are so important and how they can eventually take over from prescription drugs and bring you back to full health.

Where can I get it?

If I need supplements I tend to buy them from British Supplements  who are based in Nothern Ireland (in the British Isles and and who created the business due to the sorry state of the food and supplement industries. I have no affiliation with them but like to support indpendent suppliers providing geniune natural health products and services to those of us in the know. Their Mega Magnesium  and Clean Vitamin B Complex are two of my go to's twice a day and come highly recommended.

I also like to buy pure Epsom Salts for a soak in the bath a few times a week as you can absorb Magnesium through the skin. This is a wonderful way to ensure children receive the Magnesium they need without having to take supplements. Epsom Salts contain Sulphates which are needed for the formation of brain tissue, joint proteins and the mucin proteins that line the walls of the digestive tract. They also stimulate the pancreas to generate digestive enzymes and help to detoxify the body's residue of pharmaceutical drugs and environmental contaminants. I buy my Epsom Salts in large quantities from the Pure Clay Company  (no affiliation).

Every organ in the body, especially the heart, muscles and kidneys, needs the mineral Magnesium. Most importantly, it activates enzymes, contributes to energy production and helps regulate Calcium levels, as well as Copper, Zinc, Potassium, Vitamin D, and other important nutrients in the body.
