What is it?

Iodine the fourth mineral to feature in my Healing Mineral Guide

I learned everything I wanted to know about the power of Iodine in Dr Mark Sircus' book, Healing with Iodine (see below) where this remarkable trace element is described as the oldest allopathic medicine proven through 200 years of clinical use. It dures disease through the fulfilment of nutritional law and is essential for human development and health.

Despite being required in very small amounts, Iodine is proven to have a profound, undeniable impact on human biology, technology, and global health. Iodine was universally distributed as a field antiseptic and water purifier in World War 1 when its copious use prevented countless thousands of deaths. Soldiers frequently sourced drinking water from natural streams where Iodine and Halazone tablets prevented outbreaks of waterborne diseases that historically caused massive casualties.

There is a problem in the world being caused by soil depletion resulting in a lack of nutrients in the modern diet which means that even those who eat a varied, healthy diet cannot get the Iodine their body needs on a daily basis from their food. This is not solved by adding ionised salt which, in terms of highly refined Table Salt, is often recommended even though it has been linked to the epidemic increase in cancer.

Another problem is that recommended dosages tend to be far too low and many Iodine supplements are not strong enough to provide any real benefit. Having read Healing with Iodine and doing my own research, I've been taking 2 drops of Lugol's 12% Iodine every morning (with a week of non-use inbetween now that I have replenished my stores and healed my body for the most part).

It is important to note that too high a dose of Iodine can risk side effects so work up to your required dose slowly and carefully. You need to make sure you are not allergic to it. I found that the first time I took just one drop of 12% Lugol's Iodine, my body immediately got to work which made me feel a little bit whoosy. So I reduced the dose even further and built up slowly from there.

What does it do?

Iodine can be detected in every organ and tissue in the body and is absolutely necessary for the mainenance of healthy thyroid function which impacts the ovaries, breasts and prostate. Iodine is essential for regulating metabolism, energy production, heart rate, and body temperature.

Iodine is an essential trace mineral and chemical element that the human body cannot produce on its own. It is metabolised in the human body through a series of stages involving the hypothalmus, pituitary, thyroid gland and the blood. Nothing replaces Iodine which is needed to regulate metabolism and is vital for cellular function. It plays a critical role in supporting healthy tissue and keeping the body in a healty condition.

Iodine is recognied as a crucial medicine for the 21st Century and requires higher dosages due to our constant exposure to halides which are found in common toxins such as chloride, flouride and bromide. An enormous range of everyday products contain them from the drinking water and toothpastes we consume, to things like fire retardents sprayed on our furniture, furnishings, bed linen, clothing, and pesticides sprayed on our food. Any Iodine in the body will be continually used to remove such imposters which is why so many of us are deficient and why we need to supplement more than ever.

Note that bromide or bromine serves no known bodily function, the latter being a highly corrosive and toxic substance.. High exposure to this chemical competitively inhibits Iodine absorption, disrupting thyroid function and potentially leading to central nervous system issues.

How is it used?

Obtaining the highest quality and appopriate strength of Iodine must be considered and understaood before emarking on a course of supplements. As Dr Tina Kaczor states in Healing with Iodine: Many of the Iodine supplements on the market provide Iodine (I-), usually Potassium Iodide, either alone or in combination with Molecular Iodine (12). While this is safe for physiological repletion of Iodine, the salts carry greater risk of interferring with thyroid function at higher doses. The ideal supplement would contain Molecular Iodine with very little Iodide.

The world-renown supplement known as Lugol's Iodine is a powerful liquid solution made of Elemental Iodine and Potassium Iodide dissolved in purified water. It was first created in 1829 by French physician, Jean Lugol, when it served as an antiseptic, a diagnostic dye, and an emergency water disinfectant. This unique formulation allows both free iodine (for disinfection) and iodide ions (for thyroid absorption) to be easily dissolved in water

Essentially, Lugol's IOdine is old fashioned Iodine which is the non-manmade kind I like best. Dr Lugol successfully treated many infectios conditions with his solution and which - thankfully - we can obtain today without prescription. Be aware that, in America, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) now regulates Lugol's solution as it may be potentially used in the illicit production of methamphetamine.

Fortunately, this does not apply to us in the British Isles and you can obtain Lugol's Iodine online in all its various strengths.

Where can I get it?

As mentioned above, Lugol's Iodine is highly recognisable and well known. It is stocked by different wellness websites that serve the British Isles, so it is easy to get hold of.

As well as my daily drops in water, I have used my Lugols' 12% Iodine for a couple of emergencies where I applied it externally to halt an eye infection and to treat an episode of Tick bites. This had happened to me before and I wasn't prepared for how tiny they were. I managed to remove most of them but two were very persistent and the remaining bites were sore for seveal days.

In both instances I applied liberal and regular coatings of Organic Caster Oil with about 5 drops of my 12 percent Lugol's Iodine. Within half an hour of placing this mixure below my infected eye (not a good look), the infection stopped and stared to recede. It was literally magical and I was so relieved.

In the case of the Tick bites, I kept applying the above mixture directly onto them, several times a day. They were immediately soothed and gradually went away - together with any fear I might have had about getting Lymes Disease.

Old fashioned remedies are not to be dismissed and I wouldn't live without my Lugol's for anything. It has a shelf life of up to 3 years if stored correctly. Because it is a stable inorganic solution of Potassium Iodide and Elemental Iodine, it doesnit 'go bad' in the traditional sense but the water can slowly evaporate over time, altering the concentration.

I thank Dr Jean Lugol everyday for his foresight and his old fashioned remedy that continues to serve us so well.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the healing and life-giving health benefits of Iodine as part of my new directory about healing minerals.

I am excited to share these essential nutrients that our bodies cannot produce on their own. I can honestly say that collectively, they have transformed my health in recent years.

I look forward to seeing you again soon.
