Why Nature?

Connecting with Nature on all levels of our being helps us to thrive

Why Nature? by Sue Cartwright, Spiral Leaf

American naturalist and nature essayist, John Burroughs, once said, 'I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order' - a practice well known to provide incaculable benefits for creative minds. Best known for his observations on birds, flowers and rural scenes, John Burrough encouraged his students to instill the 'joy of living through active learning, integrity and service to others.'

Time spent in Nature is indeed precious and does serve to soothe, heal, relax and energetically connect with our roots in the Earth, our inner being and the wonders of the natural world.

The simplest things in life are often the most memorable and Nature provides endless opportunity to capture experiences we will always be there to call upon. In addition, absorbing the beauty of living things thriving around us and capturing special moments is the best way to keep our memory banks full of lasting memories.

Levels of Connection

Tuning into Nature to make a meaningful connection requires not only the activation of our physical senses perceived by our body - hearing, touch, sight, taste and smell - it also requires us to activate our higher senses perceived through our third eye, intuition and higher mind.

All these areas of our being come into play when we spend time in Nature. When we are aware of this, we can more readily engage with the beauty and abundance of the natural world around us. Everything our senses 'sense' through these various channels serves to nurture, soothe and gently stimulate our five key areas of being.

Mind

Nature provides the sanctuary we need for self-reflection, introspection and creativity.

With Nature in our presence or in our thoughts, we have the opportunity to work through problems that may be causing us to feel angry, fearful or stressed.

Consciously observing thoughts as they come and go helps us to see them for what they are so that we can accept them and let them go. We are then free to relax in the moment with a clear mind which is open to creative thoughts as we take in the beauty of the things we see around us, feeling inspired by the joy Nature brings.

Body

Nature provides the space and resources we need for movement, sensory perception and healing.

From sitting in the park or weeding the garden to walking on the Moor, being outside in the fresh air and sunshine helps our body to stay healthy.

When our bodies are relaxed we are able to tune into the natural sensations and frequencies around us, bringing peace and inner calm.

When our bodies are cleansed and nourished organically every day by the fruits of Nature we give ourselves the best opportunity to achieve optimum health, wellbeing and vitality.

Spirit

Nature provides the grounding we need for stability, rationality and understanding.

Sinking bare feet into cushioned grass feeling the dew between our toes not only feels wonderful it grounds us to the Earth.

As electrical beings in a modern world, it's easy to become over-charged by the continuous stream of unnatural frequencies that can cause us harm.

Connecting with Earth's neutral healing energy drains away stresses and strains, connects us to our roots and helps us to see things from a greater, more realistic and life-affirming perspective.

Soul

Nature provides the peace we need for loving devotion, truthful intention and spiritual evolution.

Everything we experience in our lives through the engagement of our mind, body and spirit becomes part of our soul experience.

Being at one with Nature and the living Earth means being present in the here and now.

Every moment we are connected to the natural world adds value and brings us into equilibrium with the natural flow of life. Our healt-felt appreciation, gratitude and engagement with Nature brings comfort, nourishment and vital energy to the very core of our being.

Whole Being

Nature is the source of energy that flows through us, ignites us and makes us feel whole.

When we regularly connect with Nature through our physical and higher senses we feel replenished and refreshed.

From this place of trust and calm we are able to open our hearts and feel the magic of being alive.

When we feel appreciation for the living world around us, we feel at peace with the Universe and the planet Earth we call home. This in turn raises our frequency and sends ripples of love out into the world.
